I haven't read the article, but I don't agree that fascists or theists have abandoned thinking in favor of feeling. We're all susceptible to the appeal of emotionally loaded subjects. Take for example Donald Trump stirring up his base with appeals to the immigration issue. It isn't that these people have abandoned thinking, but rather that their thinking is strongly reinforced by intense feelings generated by the subject matter. Even in less heated topics, such as science, many people rely upon their trust in science and scientists, and a feeling of confidence in them, in the place of actually researching scientific findings and verifying them for themselves. Questions about meaning, the look of the "other" that is implicit in concepts of God, and all the other constellation of religious concepts provoke powerful feelings, often reinforced with rituals that in and of themselves provoke strong neurological reactions, make religious subjects loaded with meaning and emotion. That doesn't however mean that they have in any sense abandoned thinking. Quite the opposite. Many religious people spend an inordinate amount of time reconciling their beliefs with reason, rather than simply blindly following a belief or leader.
I may have additional comments after reading the article, but based on your summary, I would have to disagree with the main thrust.
