HELL or not HELL?

The thought of an intelligent, or even supreme being, condemning sentient beings to eternal torture for something we have no control over (ei. whether we hold atheism/christianity/islam, to be true) is beneath contempt. /thread.

We put animals in cages and eat them. Why God should deny himself pleasure of abusing humans? If he exists like described in popular religion, we are doomed. But yet again, our courts, prison and farms aren't as insanely brutal as God's many years or 50k year torture.

Well, we are extremely primitive creatures in comparison, driven by evolutionary traits. Some sort of superbeing would, I expect, be above casual sadism. It could give itself whatever pleasure it wanted without actually harming anything. Even I wouldn’t want to hurt anything for fun, no matter how powerful I became.

The weird characters religions describe are generally just overgrown humans, and pretty shitty ones at that. It would be a very weird coincidence if this turned out to be the truth.
