This is a Guzzi
I remember back in the early '70s when the CHP was trying out other manufacturers for bikes. At the local Chevron hangout, we all turned to look at an officer riding by, and wondered at the strange exhaust note. They all rode Harleys before that. It was a Moto Guzzi. Then there were some Honda 750s, and finally the Kawasakis. One of my friends worked for the LAPD, and he told me that in a pursuit, if an officer laid a Honda down, it was scrap. If it was a Harley, they put new skid plates on it and sent it back to work. I had a Harley and laid it down in '72, taking a corner too fast on a mountain road, sliding off that road (sand on the road) and down an embankment. Fortunately, I didn't make it to the water at the bottom. Rode it home bent up, and managed to pull the left handlebar out sorta straight by putting my foot by the fork and pulling it down.
One of my riding bros in California had a late 70' s T- 3, and he rode the shit out of it. He took the muffler's off one time doing maintenance, and took it for a ride, open pipes. I swear to you we could hear it 4 miles away. Unbelievably loud.
Funny, most Americans have never heard of them - despite the fact it' s the "European Harley". Great design, well built - better than HD in my opinion.
