I would go a bit farther here. The love of a soulmate I see as a base and support for all the rest of love in one's life. It is the grounding and example, and also the launch-pad to everything else that is important.
For example, I think of all the musicians I know, and one music therapist who does great work with troubled little kids. All of them loved music first, and studied it after. Nobody studies music for years in order to decide if they love it or not. They are passionate first, and devote themselves to it in full faith. I think most of the really important things in life are like this.
You are right that we live in a world of TV trash. All of it is designed to misguide our love toward stupid stuff. But what we love is really what we are, and the greatest treasure of a finite life.
The fact that people mock this shows we all really live in Trump Land now. We mock what's obviously better, and poke a thumb in the eye of what might help us, just because it is a momentary self-pat on the back.
