Of course, Mbeki's successor Jacob Zuma isn't that much better; while he does seem to believe there's a link between HIV and AIDS, before being elected president, he was on trial for raping an HIV positive staffer (he was eventually acquitted, although given the blatant corruption that's surrounded Zuma since day one, take that with a grain of salt) and he admitted that he did not wear a condom, but seriously thought that showering afterward would reduce the odds of transmission.
To be fair, it is easier for a woman to get HIV from a man than vice versa, from what I've read.
Of course, there's also Americans with a sizable political pull who believe HIV does not cause aids:

Yes, this was the spokesman for the American Family Association (at least he was at the time) saying this. And that's only the tip of the iceberg here.
