When I was in high school I started reading William F Buckley Jr., but not because I have any conservative inclinations. Nope, I just liked his linguistic style. He is one of the writers I've mimicked. Kant was another, I'm sure there are still people I should apologize to for subjecting them to it. I might also have lifted parts of my sense of humor from Gerry Durrell. I think I've read everything he wrote, the three autobiographical ones from his childhood on Corfu are the best but they all make me laugh hard at some points.I'm sure many people are influenced by the language and style of authors they read, but in my case it often seems out of place when the rest of my writing and speaking style is definitely not British.
