I'll take two good hounds over a wolf any day of the week.

Wolf god 

  Hounds are better constructed to track wolves than wolves are to track anything.

  If I tell the doggies to go find one of the cats, they'll go right to the piece of furniture the one I mention is under. 

Wolves don't fetch things 

 Not only do they have fantastic noses, but they have two wonderful ears for fanning scents up to those nasal passages.

Wolves do too 

  My Lynx Point could probably out hunt a wolf too.

 She's very efficient at stalking and scanning.

 The main advantage to wolves as hunters is they systematically work in packs and follow set rules.  Disrupt it, and they'll most likely try to run.
