20 some years ago Michigan changed it' s laws to equalize the earlier law which only allowed men to be arrested for spousal abuse.
The sister of the lady I was living with at the time, had the dubious distinction of being the first woman to be arrested for getting drunked up and beating her husband, (only hours after the law went into effect.) She gave him a black eye.
She got probation.
