So if Obama or Trump for that matter, in theory, were to target you as a civilian because you spoke out against them, even if you had done nothing wrong, and a Secret Service agent or the CIA caught wind of that, you'd want them to say, "oh well, he's the president, what are you going to do"?
By your logic the leaks that lead to uncovering Nixon should not have happened.
If your argument is that Whistleblowing can get political, I'd agree with that. But not all whistileblowing is.
Even outside politics, say at a workplace. Say you observe unsafe working practices, or your boss cooking the books, do you let it happen and let others get physically or financial hurt because of power and greed, or do you say something to stop it?
Imagine if someone under Bernie Madoff had rated him out when he first started his Ponzy scheme? 40 billion dollars would still be in the hands of his investors and not him. Where is he now? Rightfully in prison where he belongs.
And you are having a massive argument with figments of your imagination, again. Let's say I work at the IRS and I have access to everyone's returns. I illegally make a copy of Trump's tax returns. I take them to Mueller and the New York investigators and offer them the returns. Do you know what they are going to do? They are going to refuse to look at them. They are going to arrest me.
