Compared to the Greeks and especially the Spartans I would agree with you. I was meaning compared to our present society. For example I cannot see a political leader today parading with their same sex lovers like the emperor Hadrian did or nudity* to be acceptable in gyms and public swimming pools.
Although we are now not far off the Spartans in one respect, they positively encouraged lesbian relationships.
* There was quite a furore recently in Melbourne about some group having nude swimming nights at a local pool. After "concerned" citizens found photos of these events with children being a part of these nude swimming clubs.
