I like to buy locally if I can, because our consumer protection laws have teeth. OR Ebay; have bought dozens of things, and have had few problems. Whenever an item has been faulty, I have always been able to get a refund.
In terms of an external SSD, I will only consider buying one when the price is competitive with HDD. From what I've seen there's still a long way to go.
They're not for bulk storage, their claim to fame is speed.* For accessing the frequently needed code they're the champs.
*I started out on a 286 computer back in the '80s. Speed is incredible now even without an SSD.
I understand that SSD are used for speed; EG if and when I get new PC, it will have 265GB SSD to run it.
However, I'm hoping they will get a bit bigger ,say 1TB. . Even so,I can store a lot of data on 512GB, so perhaps I'll get one when they get cheaper, and buy more as needed. (I don't play games)
