From the Satanists I've spoken with, Satanism isn't something you "gin up some... interest in." You either get it or don't. You either identify with the teachings or don't. It's very much unlike conventional religions where you're required to adhere to its tenets, regardless of personal interest. You either see yourself reflected in the writings, or you don't. And if you see yourself reflected in the writings, you go in deeper. One Satanist told me, "Satanism requires study, not faith."
I can't say I would call myself a Satanist necessarily, but I certainly like the whole "Itheism" thing they've started.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
