@PRJA93 @EgoDeath No you're reading your own inflection and bias into typed in words. So you don't assume someone will be merging unless you see a blinker? Let's be real, you do make assumptions. It's part of your "watching everyone and being alert". However, both of those are reactive driving without assumptions and intuitions made. The safest driving is legal, cordial, reactive, proactive and biased with safer than sorry approach. I agree with you that a zipper merge would be far safer and better for traffic IF all drivers were on the same page. It's to bigof an IF, IMO. Much like the metric system here in the US, I see it falling flat because we Americans are like a bunch of cats, more often than not.

I think you knew what I meant by saying, "I don't assume anything" - don't be disingenuous.

You've openly insulted other people on the road multiple times in this thread - it's not my own bias, I'm simply reading what you've typed. You seem like an angry driver. Period. It's not as if you said, "Whew this morning was busy on the road," and then I responded, "So you hate everyone else who drives? You're an angry guy!" - THAT would be applying my own projections. In this case, I've simply read what you wrote, right here in black and white.

So, I'm glad you've conceded that the zipper merge is better for traffic. Thanks for proving my point. The issue is, the zipper merge WON'T work when people like you say, "I have no obligation to let you over!" and blocks another driver and prevents them from safely merging at the bottle neck. So yea, dicks like you keep it from working.

That being said, I've seen it work in real life multiple times, so it's not really the "flop" you try to describe it as. Saying, "It won't work here in the US" is cynical and dismissive. The key is better education for drivers - hopefully it's something they are teaching in driving schools.
