They did so anyway by guerrilla attacks on caravans, and targeted violence against groups and individuals, in spite of your modernist apologia that they did not.
Regardless, the historical truth is that any time Islam gains sufficient power to challenge things, and especially when it is in the majority, they quickly abandon the faux model that you dishonestly appeal to in this case. There is simply no reason for Muslim majorities to subscribe to the model you suggest, and so they don't. Who exactly are you thinking it would be better for such that people could be persuaded to follow your imaginary model? It hasn't worked in the past, so you're just a nutter for thinking it will work in the present, or even that it is possible to achieve such through practical means in the present. You're arguing an ideal which never actually existed, and has no chance of existing now. Your comments are not so much wrong, thought they are that, so much as they are simply irrelevant to a modern Arabic state like Saudi Arabia.
The evidence of the accuracy of my statement is summed up in the region's people not vanishing due to mass murder, or their historical sights being demolished.
Compare what the west did in America, and what the early Muslims did, then you will get your answer: compare Egypt to America, Turkey to America, Iran to America, Iraq to America, even Spain to America.
Muslim conquests were clean, so clean it didn't affect nobody but the oppressive, monstrous empires that used to hold the freed communities with a fist of steel.
Unlike the western version, that is similar to a bug infestation killing and murdering the host after laying so many eggs in its body.
Summing the rise and fall of a multi-cultural empire across 1400 years that involved the rule of Arabs, Turks, Europeans, Africans, free, slaves, Kurds and more to "caravan raids", is just wrong, unfair, and totally ignorant and based on "Disney cartoons". Totally biased also.

Islam is Islam; it never changes, but empires do; they grow old and weary, it's extremely wrong to think that the disgusting coughs of a dead man are what he is.
It's not about "building" to me; it's about "doing what's right". And my personal belief is just that. There's a God that I worship; and he won't let the good deeds of somebody be wasted; if we do good we will build good.
Saudi Arabia is the opposite of that: it's a parasite that climbed on Islam and its twisted, alternative hellish version of Islam was "Wahhabism" -which it's without shame claiming that it's not its responsibility after 300 years of terror-, but the west chooses to believe Saudi Arabia because it has lots of money.
Ain't that a shame?
