the problem IS your system, the issues are inherently systemic.
Speaking as an outsider ,but with ideas I found supported by Gore Vidal:
My observation, over the last 30 years or so, is that the US seems to have the most corrupt political system in the developed world.
Why on earth do I think such a thing?
At the very top is the Military Industrial complex, about which Dwight Eisenhower warned the nation as he left office.
The Us spends more in $ terms on its military ,than any other country. It continues to use the same gun boat diplomacy which has kept it involved in conflicts almost continuously since 1950.
Imagine the difference if even a fraction of the money spend on war was spent on Social Justice .IE Health; Education and Welfare
Next perhaps the billion dollar presidential election campaign. Surely an obscenity?
The mind boggling lobbying system: Major contributors get to set policy;EG the Health Insurance Industry sets the rules about health insurance, when that is the role and obligation of government..
The appalling National Rifle Rifle Association, with what, 3 million members? This organisation prevents any serious gun control legislation in the US, even though around 70% of Americans want such laws.
The Pharmaceutical industry.
The banking industry; the sub prime disaster could simply not have happened with a regulated banking industry, as in most developed countries.
The car and oil industries.
It is said that a way to judge a country is to look that way it treats its young poor,,old, sick and marginalised.
I am enjoying a comfortable retirement. if I lived in the US. I would dare not become seriously ill, as my expensive health insurance would actually run out. (not allowed in my country) with the medication I take, the time would come when I had to choose between medication and food.
The US is the richest country in the world. Does it not strike you as odd that there are MILLIONS of homeless including tens of thousands of homeless children?
Does it not seem odd that the US has a minimum wage which isn't enough for a person to live, on its own?
Does it not seem odd that there are MILLIONS of illegal immigrants ,who are tolerated and unconscionably exploited by being paid less than the minimum wage--as they do jobs so menial that few Americans will do them?
Does it not seem odd that the gulf between 'the haves and the haves nots' can be be one of life and death?
But hey, I'm only only an ignorant foreigner , what do I know?
