I believe that punk was more a response to 'corporate rock' (Journey, Boston, Toto, REO Speedwagon, etc), than to prog. The temporary downfall of prog was mostly collateral damage.
But prog has made a strong comeback starting in the mid 90's, and continuing on a steady pace since then. So, I'm happy! It's just no longer in the mainstream.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
