I've long thought that only a series could stand a chance at really doing justice to the novel, tbh. Dune's just too much to try and squeeze into a film, IMO. Even two.
Though not great, the Syfy series wasn't nearly as horrible as the '84 film, so I think a Netflix season would probably be a better avenue for producing a good adaptation. Netflix could throw a decent amount of coin into design and visual effects and most or many of intricacies of the book could be adequately explored given a sufficient number of episodes.
Plus, viewers could binge watch the entire season instead of having to wait God knows how long for part two.
