Well, if you're going to use TOS aliens as your template, what about the horta? Looked nothing like a human, but was able to communicate in writing with humans, had a sense of history, and outwitted the humans hunting it. Seems pretty intelligent.
Is that your answer how alien intelligent life looks like? interesting how (and whats the point) nature need create absolutely different (yet intelligent) creature if exoplanets has same gravity, same chemistry (watch neil tyson videos in my post, i bet you didn't - that why you talk these nonsense here).
And rewatch star trek again - blob which only goal to kill everyone - sounds not very intelligent
