What is the benefit of calling themselves Satanists over, for example, members of the Mickey Mouse Club, or Bronies?Actually, in the original Hebrew, "satan" simply means an adversary. There's some debate among theologians as to whether or not "satan" is used to describe Lucifer, the fallen angel, or simply an evil entity. But that's actually beside the point, because in common usage, Satan means Lucifer. And while Lucifer IS an Abrahamic character, the idea of a devil or evil god is not at all a Christian or Judaic invention. So what's your point?
If your question is simply asking what it means for a Satanist to be a Satanist, I suggest you visit the Church of Satan website.

This is simply not true. Satanic rituals are used as a therapeutic tool and nothing more. I've also never of of "Rupert Sheldrake." Can you cite a time when he was mentioned in Satanic literature?
It is true they talk about results from rituals all the time. Sheldrake has been promoted by the church of satan in interviews and on their website and in books like "The Satanic Scriptures" and on the COS forum
