Weird feeling - air going in and out of your ear. It did eventually heal - some hearing loss....
When I was in school (the school before highschool?) I was learning to weld with electric arch (old school with electrodes). I was doing it without mask and the teacher told me to wear it. I stibbornly said it was no problem. Boy what lesson I learnt! At night it felt like I had sand in my eyeballs!
So yeah, wear masks.
