I've read reviews from the people who took part in containing this disaster and many call the series accurate. The state-owned media lost its shit, however. There was a fifteen or so minute rant on how it's all a hostile effort to undermine authorities.

I myself haven't seen the series so far.

Containing the Chernobyl disaster did take a heroic effort and many lives. Specialists from all around USSR were rallied to contain it.
