I'd love to think that police would be trained to be able to tell the very distinctive white cane blind people carry from something that's actually intended to hurt people. But then again, looking it up, I found policemen in BRITAIN tasing a blind person for their cane (and he was white!) Et in Arcadia ego. If British coppers can make such an elementary mistake, I see no reason cops in a behavioral sink like America can't make the same mistake.

And the sad thing is this problem is so intertwined with so many difficult topics, from the obvious suspects of race and class to the simple fact of what dealing with the worst society has to offer can do to the psyche of a heavily armed man, that I strongly suspect it can't be fixed. Why, yes, that does suck.
