I think we're too complicated too. Our wants and desires are many, what we prioritize will change over time. Not to say that the "forever" relationship isn't possible but it certainly shouldn't be thought of as the norm.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
