You weren't surprised that people who believe in one silly set of things got mad at another group of people who believed in another set of silly things. That's surprising. And silly.
But seriously... I should open up a fucking New-age spirituality shop. There's some money to be made there. That and monthly subscription boxes.
I hear what you're saying though. An examination of Ia Muslim and a Christian arguing will cause the atheist to step back and say, "Do either of you realize how dumb you sound right now?"
