One of the arts of bellydancing in debates and discussion; like saying "why care about African slaves? they brought slavery upon themselves"; very unethical if you think about it.

Interestingly enough, I have yet to see anyone suggest that the white victims of the Barbary slave trade "brought slavery upon of themselves"--Despite the fact that Barbary pirates couldn't have waged nearly as successful a campaign without the expertise of English and Dutch privateer captains who elected to become corsairs. 

But I presume that's because it's perfectly reasonable to expect that European subjects would have had their share of betrayal and opportunists among their ranks, right? Of course?

Point blank: The narrative “Africans did it to themselves!” is nothing but a regurgitation of centuries-old Eurocentrist rhetoric aimed to mobilize public opinion against Africans and justify oppression of them--as were the false narratives that Africans barely resisted the European slave trade, and that no African civilizations existed pre-colonization and the continent was populated with but nothing mindless, amoral, black savages.

TBH; denying the hell white governments brought upon humanity is a proof of a lost cause; the lost cause is the person arguing though, not the historical, precious narrative.

Let's quickly recall the disasters European brought upon humanity:
-atomic bombs
-enslaving Africans and turning black people to lesser humans until today
-literally killing the natives of both Americas
-Waging two World Wars and cutting the borders of people like a piece of candy

It doesn't mean we are racists as some ignorant people try to picture us. We are simply readers of history.
The same unfair excuse is used to justify the western crimes in the Middle East today; white colonists would always say:
-Muslims are crazy
-Muslims brought it upon themselves
-Muslims are mad

History repeats itself; or should I say humans are pretty finite?

When imperialists and colonists stay out; the earth prospers.

Bullshit. The facts may be awkward, but they tend to be that way when examined.

And, IIRC, one of the "children's crusades"  wound up with a whole bunch of European orphans being sold in the markes of the Levant.
