What difference does it make; I mean being "a laser that is not really laser" and a "laserbeam"; eventually it's laser that nerds try to make more important by claiming different origins for the sword.

But a lightsaber isn't a laser at all, not in any sense.  It's a plasma weapon.

And I consider myself somewhere in the middle of the nerd scale - I enjoy science fiction, space opera and some fantasy, but I don't dress up as characters or go to conventions.

Here's the flaw with plasma swords: I don't think plasma can clash with other plasmas in an opposite direction.

I don't like the "diving suite" universe where generals fight in pajamas with colorful laser that they think it's plasma........

Ah; I'm a semi-nerd too but when it comes to some video games
