I too would rather see more cash pumped into alteratives and research so the western world doesnt have to be reliant on the middle east.

Quite surprising - and I'm probably not as far left as you.
On oil - I'd like to see a lot of research done into alternative fuels to reduce reliance on foreign oil in unstable and/or unfriendly nations. I realize the importance of petroleum in our lives, and find bumper sticker platitudes like "no blood for oil" a bit over-simplistic. However, I don't support going to war for the purpose of seizing natural resources. I'm not a fan of imperialism.
