No- she wasn’t babysitting. Babysitting is done by someone other than a parent or person who has custody. Just like it is stupid to say a father is babysitting for his own kids.

Why do you falsely assume our species ability to have compassion and empathy didn't play into that?
We are a social species, and sharing is an important aspect of that evolution. I think the kid was simply remembering all the other times I went in prior, and was smiling and nice to his mother. I think he picked up on that, and offered me a recognition of that connection. I am also sure if it had not been pennies, if it had been candy or a toy, he would have done the same thing and offered me it.

An adult watching over any child, parent are not, is still watching over a child. Sorry you got stuck on the word "babysitting".
