As someone who thinks Thanos did nothing wrong, I have to say that, to be totally honest, the sort of self-serving nature of morality is kinda human nature:
Injustices are happening all over the world, and the vast majority of us will do nothing about any of them, even the ones we've heard about. And distance certainly plays a big part of it. Read up on The Monkeysphere for more information. And certainly, being more like us does help aid in action. This sucks, but the more I look at it, this isn't really something we can overcome all that well. And, if the science is accurate, this isn't a software issue (something an adjustment in our values systems can help with); this is a hardware limitation (namely, dictated by biological limitations.) Why, yes, that does suck.
Also, if this was a disease to really punish the human race, one would think something like ebola would be a better vector, since it doesn't have a fatality rate in the single digits, and, in the majority of the sufferers, doesn't present much differently from the flu. Then again, ebola is a bit too effective a killer to be a proper disease for a pandemic.
Also, since it seems your concern seems to be limited by your desire to help aid in your West v. East narrative, it should also be noted that Iran, a Muslim nation, is one of the nations most affected by the coronavirus.
