And if there is no god in the first place then all you are doing is killing something for no reason.
I'm fighting with an idiot on another board where he's claiming that Mt. Ararat was REALLY the place where the ark landed and not all these other places that ark hunters are looking for it. My point is, "shouldn't you demonstrate that there was a gigantic, earth-covering, flood in the first place before you worry about where a fictional boat landed?"
Tracey Harris of The Atheist Experience has referred to this sort of thing as the social structure of Bigfoot. It's all very well building up the details of what do they eat, how do they reproduce, how long do they live etc, and you can construct an incredibly rich, consistent and plausible model - but unless the creature can be shown even to exist in the first place, everything else is white noise. Or bollocks, if you prefer.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
