This is just awful. I can't for the life of me understand parents who at any point decide that their ideology is more important than their family. If he didn't have you, ended up on the street and something happened that would be on them. There are organizations out there that can help him if need be.
Atheist organizations have paid for full tuition for students who were ostracized by their parents, paid for rent, etc. Just let Redbaron know that he is not alone, and although his parents may take him for granted, others will not. Best of luck to you and your nephew. I'm grateful that he has you in his life, and isn't enduring this by himself.

"In our youth, we lacked the maturity, the decency to create gods better than ourselves so that we might have something to aspire to. Instead we are left with a host of deities who were violent, narcissistic, vengeful bullies who reflected our own values. Our gods could have been anything we could imagine, and all we were capable of manifesting were gods who shared the worst of our natures."-Me
"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men." – Francis Bacon
