My reply to Jaysyn is as as above because he referred to a book I have never heard of which, apparently, shows golliwogs in a positive light.
In the case we are discussing, it is unlikely, I suggest, that Mrs. Mason is a fan of said book and its message, and it is far more likely that her golliwog was being used as a means of racially harrassing her black neighbour.
Thus the referenced book is of no consequence.
