I think money is a big factor too, we don't always do things that is best for society or the whole world, but usually do things that increase profit or generates more revenue, which is backwards in my opinion.
They "could" build a worldwide bullet train for the transportation of goods using electricity, but selling all the oil to run all the other shit makes more money!
I agree, we need to use to cheap ass energy called oil to create the technologies that will allow us to sustain ourselves once this oil runs out.
