When I was a senior in Catholic high school back in the mid-1960's the priest that was in charge of the religion class used the terms "atheist" and "communist" almost interchangeably. He would sometimes conduct discussions in which he would pose as an atheist, in which case he would always effect a Russian accent. His conservative views caused me to regard him as an ignoramus and world-class twit.
