Even downhill is quite an accomplishment. It gets a little better every day, but the first few hours of the day are challenging to say the least. The first few hours of every day are difficult to say the least, but a heating pad, compression sock and pain pills help a lot.
At least I'm not depending on the pills nearly as much as I was. It's all too easy to become addicted to them.
I had my first post-embolism experience with stairs today - made me feel about 30 years older than I am.
It's really freaking out my 9 year old son - seeing his dad needing a cane to get around and obviously in a lot of pain, when he knows me as a big strong guy who can do anything without anyone's help (obviously he sees me as a bit larger than life).
It was heartbreaking to see his face the first time he saw me as helpless as I am now. I did explain to him why I'm having such a hard time now, and that it's probably temporary. I think he understood.
