If America had been paying livable wages for the past 40 years and had been more concerned about saving for a rainy day for things like this pandemic, we wouldn't be in the position to having to do this. Obama set up a pandemic response team and Trump dismantled it.
There most certainly are people in the middle/working and poor classes who need this now. I don't need it.
We are in this position of having to do this because for the past 40 years the GOP has been more concerned with protecting the tax codes that protect the likes of Jeff Bezos and the Walmart family.
Nothing is a "gift" when it comes to taxes. Unfortunately, while the stimulus is needed now, because of 40 years of Reagan's failed trickle down economics, this will add to our long term debt.
