It isn't enough to react after the fact. What is America going to do to prevent it getting to this point in the future? THAT is the real question. The global economy for that matter focuses far too much on short term profits and exploitation.
Bailing out the middle class and working poor IS needed now. But the long term picture is always going to be how do we avoid getting into this situation in the first place.
How does the US prevent a previously unknown virus pandemic?
How do you prevent people from having to isolate to slow the virus spread an loose their jobs and income?
We know that even when people have good jobs they don't always save a nest egg to fall back on, especially one that will cover months or years. Does the government step in and force people to save?
