I think you're over-complicating the matter; there's no "grand goal" or even a "goal" in terrorist's mind: he/she only wants to kill those not agreeing with them.
Just like as a human you can understand the feline mentality, you can also understand the terrorist mentality.
Just that.
I can understand ecs much better than I can understand cats - that's just silly. They're people, not killing machines - that latter idea is from movies. Knowing what they want, just as it is with anyone and anything else, can help you to prevent them acting out of desperation to get it (and knowing what they want is the hook that got them groomed, too).
Maybe, if you're real good and real lucky and real sociable, it keeps some rando from ever thinking about blowing himself up. From acting out of frustration to achieve that goal.
There are some unworkable ones. Rahowa - unworkable. The death of teh joos and the great western satan - same (exactly the same...). OBL, our example, very accomplished terrorist - and we're still here. Those sorts of goals can't be achieved. Frankly, anyone like that is always going to find a joo or a great satan - but that's understanding a person as opposed to understanding a killing machine.
The goal isn't to kill anyone who disagrees...and fwiw, they'll kill people who agree, too. You should probably keep that in mind as they ask you for help.
