Mildly interesting factlet: Kermit was the only muppet to cross over from ‘Sesame Street’ to ‘The Muppet Show’ (as long as you don’t count one guest appearance by Big Bird).

To keep things somewhat on track (although I think that ship has sailed) Kermit is an Irish name meaning ‘free man’.

I'm stunned the premise of the thread made it past the first page. I wonder how many people looked their names  up for the first time.  

I have been Googling my first name pretty much since I have had regular access to the Internet.   I don't know why I keep hoping it will turn up with some explanation.  My sister and brother have names that are common and recognized by most everyone though sister's name can be spelled several different ways.  I was the one to end up with the weird - no one can pronounce or spell first or last - name.  Our last name wouldn't be so bad except it stumps people with by ignoring the whole "I before E" rule.

When brother and wife were expecting their first and only, I asked if they had any names picked out.  Brother said his wife was considering trendy names.  I advised that with our last name it would be a kindness to give the poor kid a first name that people can say and spell since he would not marry out of the last name and therefore be stuck with it.

When you go to the doctor, or somewhere similar, and they come to call you if they can't say one name they generally say the other.  When neither is familiar you get a butchered attempt that leaves others in the waiting room wondering why parents would burden a kid with such a horrible name combination.
