To keep things somewhat on track (although I think that ship has sailed) Kermit is an Irish name meaning ‘free man’.

I'm stunned the premise of the thread made it past the first page. I wonder how many people looked their names up for the first time.
I’ve known the meaning of my name since I was a kid. We had Irish language classes at school, and one of the exercises was to research the meaning of your name. We were suppose to use reference books, but a lot of us cheated and just asked our parents.
