There's a story - almost certainly not true - that during the topping-out of Sky Tower in Auckland (just over 1000 feet high) a welder casually mentioned to his Maori co-worked that it would be a helluva fall from such a height.  The Maori looked over the edge for a few seconds and said, 'Give me 8-to-5 odds and rubber heels for the landing and we'll see.'
