So me and my boyfriend would like to spend the holiday together, the gathering would only be us two and his dad and brother. Me and his dad are both “vulnerable”. We’re all wearing masks and being safe as we possibly can be, however my parents think I should spend the holiday alone. I’m trying very hard to balance my own emotional needs against being safe, especially since I’ve been isolated since February (old timers will remember my condition and how I got cracked open again). What do you guys think? Should I risk it? Do I go?

Lots of people can't handle long periods of isolation. And for many, it can have a psychologically negative effect. Everyone wants things to get back to normal. But we are not dealing with things as normal. There are ways, for "on the go" "extraverts" to have the stimulus they need while staying at home. But they have to want to re create it, they cant simply wish it. Video chats are a way of socializing, taking walks outside at a distance, jogging, exercising, making crafts, cooking, doing a hobby one likes. 

Others like me handle long periods at home better. I like being at home. I am a news and debate junkie, and that is how I get my socializing. I don't feel the need to be on the go 24/7. 

But safety is always first. If you are higher risk, you should worry about that first. It is good that you are wearing masks when in public regardless and keeping your distance is good too. 

Unfortunately Americans didn't learn after the Memorial Day spike, the 4th of July Spike, the Thanksgiving spike, and now the Christmas/New Years spike. I'd say for right now, the best thing to do is to stay away from others when you can, especially if you are at higher risk.

We’ve doing virtual date night, we see each other once a month now, that way we can self quarantine and watch for symptoms afterwards
