Simply: has there ever been a spree killer who actually managed to plead his way to anything less than life (not counting cases where they were found legally insane)? Looking up America's list of rampage killers, the only one I can find is Caril Ann Fugate, and in that case, she was a kid who acted as accomplice to Charles Starkweather and also possibly wasn't even much of a willing participant. Since this guy is a lone wolf and 21, I can't see him getting anything less than life, even if the justice system is racist as fuck. If he pleads, it's just from getting a needle in his arm to life in prison.
