Wasps are my favorite bug-type critter, aside from spiders. They just look so cool, so sleek, and they're efficient in their place in the cycle of nature. One of my favorite youtube channels is HornetKing. Although he removes wasp nests from homes as his job, he's actually relocated quite a few nests on his channel. And I love the instructional videos showing what the queen looks like and the larva in its different stages of development. I also like some of his time lapse vids of young bald-faced hornet queens making their new nest. The diligence and way the paper is constructed line by line.
However, I agree, real-life encounters with them are not the most pleasant. I've never been stung but they like the covered porch by our front door. It makes it difficult to coexist when their home is placed somewhere hidden yet close to the slamming door and stomping feet on the wooden porch, where they constantly get disturbed by our comings and goings.
