I DO know what a conductor does. I simply don't understand it. 

I was actually being SARCASTIC in admitting I could not do what a conductor does, much less play any musical instrument. 

I am not into classical music in general, but I do have few favorities. I simply was being  SARCASTIC in how it is all orginized and done and the fact that I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

But there's no reason for you to not understand it. You linked to a Wikipedia article that explains it.
