So I was gonna post some Metal releated gay news in the "That Gay Thread" Only to find out that the sterotype of our community being homophobic/transphobic/racist is being promoted by news media. I wish they would actually do their research, go out into the feild and interview people before they make assumptions. Hell actually listen to a metal song or two.
Now are there homophobic/transphobic/racist that like metal, sure, but they are not the majority and the whole community and culture shouldn't be judged on them. Not to mention the fact that those type of people exists in all communities and cultures.
I have been a metalhead and part of the community for almost 10 years. I am east indian and openly gay and the Metal community has been the most accepting community in my experiance. There are tons of metal songs that I listen to becuase I can relate to them, it's like they know the hardships I'm going through, as if the songs are about me. And while this may be anecdotal evidence, metal has always been about the black sheep, the outcast, the unaccepted, the reality of the world in all it's darkness. It has always fought against authority and social norms and was always accepting of people no matter the race, gender or sexual orientation.
