I think that I'll be getting another surgery soon if this keeps up. That'll be fusion of the big toe joint, which is the last corrective surgery that can be performed on it. Osteoarthritis, which I guess has fuckall to do with what I eat, it being autoimmune and all.Runs in the family. This was my fourth surgery.
Apparently, my gout is environmental rather than genetic, because my father is an alcoholic who loves red meat and seafood and all the bad stuff that contributes to gout flare-ups yet he has never had gout.
Also, I believe a contributing factor to dodging it has to do with the fact that this is only recent. I've only had two flare-ups in the past few months.
Though I am wondering if it's more in regard to the kind of alcohol I was drinking rather than my consumption of alcohol in general, because even nurses with whom I work told me that one can of alcohol a day should not give me gout. Of course, there has been some controversy with Four Loko, and I wonder if drinking that was the primary cause of the gout. I'd rather not test the theory, however, so I'm just staying away from alcohol altogether.
