I'm new here, but certainly not new to atheism. I started to doubt my parents' Christian beliefs over 50 years ago when I was about 12 or 13. The trigger for my doubt was that my family read the Bible, one chapter each evening before dinner. We started at the first chapter of Genesis and read to the end of Revelation, then started over. Like many non-believers who grew up in religious homes, the Bible's atrocities, sexism, violence, and utter disregard for human life turned me away from religion. At first I still believed in God, but decided if the God of the Bible were a true god, that he was not worthy of worship. Eventually, I couldn't believe a god existed. I've been collecting freethought quotes for most of those 50 years and often post them on my blog.
