One of the hardest things I ever did was selling my Electra Glide.

Husband used to have a Sportster...for one reason and that was to go fast. I think I rode a total of two miles on it.
He didn't wear a helmet unless he went somewhere it was required and then he wore a half helmet. He wore goggles at most.
I knew he was going to drive it like a dumb ass so I was happier he didn't wear a helmet because if/when he wrecked it would probably kill him the way he rode. After we moved here he was a bit afraid to ride it with traffic being as it is in Dallas so he bought a bigger bike...one for more sane riding. But too many close calls made his sell it.
I know a lot of people who got majorly screwed up due to mototcylcle accidents and a helmet would not made it much better.
I used to love motorcycles myself. But I could never handle a big bike because I was short and skinny and had no coordination or upper body strength. I did long ago own a Honda Rebel 250. It was ok for slower roads like suburban and city, but I once tried to take it out on the DC beltway. 18 wheelers would pass me and it felt damned near like I was going to be sucked up under them. But even on the slow roads of the suburbs, I can't tell you how many times people would tailgate me and cut me off.
I ended up selling my bike to a neighbor because I had parked it while at work in the parking lot of the 7-11 I worked at, and it had a slight incline from the front of the store, to the main street, possibly to divert water to the sewer to prevent the parking lot from flooding. I was looking out the window, and a dump truck driver, I guess forgot to put the vehicle in park, it rolled back and nocked over my bike. It severely fucked up my bike, especially the lights and handlebars. It was at that moment, I said to myself, "No more". I got the insurance check fixed it, and sold it.
If maybe you had the population of 1900 and the same amount of population, maybe there would be less of a risk. But my experience over the years I had two wheeled transportation, too many people don't give a fuck you are there.
