It was a bit shocking. Today I found out that my former next-door neighbor died of covid. She actually died like five months ago. She was in her mid-thirties and left two little kids behind. I knew her like from when I was a kid, but also haven't seen her in few years, and when I did I barely recognized her because she doubled in weight since having kids, so I guess she wasn't in very good health even before covid.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
